VINYL WALLPAPER APPLICATIONS

Vinyl wallpapers: suitable for all types of interiors (walls, plasterboards, various washable coatings). Depending on the quantity and quality of the top vinyl layer, the wallpaper can be used for different purposes. Bathroom wallpapers can be used in wet environments, e.g. bathrooms and toilets. Vinyl wallcoverings have a very good overlapping ability when used on crooked and cracked walls.

  • Substrate:

Clean the walls of the room thoroughly and adjust any unevenness, e.g. with levelling compound. Remove old wallpaper and water-soluble paint. Roughen and degrease plasterboard cores and various coatings. If the substrate is dry and firm, you can proceed to gluing. Do not apply vinyl wallpaper to wet walls, as mould can form under the wallpaper. In classic prefab bathrooms, increase the life of the vinyl wallpaper by professionally applying it. Apply a primer over fresh plaster. You can also use wallpaper adhesive to prime the substrate, following the enclosed instructions.

  • Adhesive:

The right adhesive is crucial for a quality finish. If the vinyl wallpaper is heavy or you are gluing it to a non-absorbent substrate, use a special adhesive that you prepare in a thicker consistency.

  • Gluing:

Length of wallpaper strip = height of room + 5 cm allowance at the top and bottom for alignment. If the vinyl wallpaper has a pattern on it (there is rapport), apply the roll so that it always follows the start of the pattern. It is best to mark the top of the vinyl wallpaper with a pencil to prevent the wallpaper turn over during application, unless stated on the label.
Stick the first strip from the window towards the door. Mark a vertical line beforehand using a plumb bob. Stick the vinyl wallpapers close together, only in corners and problem areas can you overlap them. Apply the adhesive to the wallpaper and backing with a spreader. Turn the adhesive-coated wallpaper on its reverse side and fold it over itself so that the adhesive is evenly absorbed throughout the wallpaper. Caution! The time required for vinyl wallpaper to soak in is 5-7 min. If the soak time is longer than recommended, the wallpaper will stretch. Prepare a maximum of 1-2 strips in advance. Make sure that the adhesive time on the wallpaper is the same for all painted strips. Apply the first strip to the wall and press it against the wall with your hands. To prevent air bubbles, smooth the wallpaper from the centre to the edges with a wallpaper brush, tapping it lightly to join the seams. Cut off the edges of the wallpaper that overhang at the bottom using a ruler and a paring knife. If possible, remove any adhesive residue immediately with a clean cloth. Switch off the electricity when gluing around sockets and switches, unscrew the cover when gluing the wallpaper, glue the wallpaper and then cut the hole. When gluing window recesses, allow the wallpaper to overhang and cut it off accurately when dry. Behind the radiators, you only need to back the wallpaper 10-15 cm. For ceilings, glue in pairs. When bonding vinyl wallpaper to plasterboard core, it is a good idea to mix a dispersion adhesive into the glue. When renovating bathrooms and shower cubicles, it is advisable to lubricate each joint after gluing with a clear dispersion (e.g. Duvilax LS50) and to fill the joints in particularly exposed areas with colourless sanitary silicone. This investment will pay for itself many times over.Fit the bath, washbasin or shower with a suitable sealant. If you want to separately decorate the wall with a border, mark the place on the dry wallpaper with a pencil and ruler. Cut out the top layer with a special knife and glue the border into the cut-out area. Do not stick vinyl wallpaper on the wall with the window and door open and do not turn off the heating. If the water dries out early, the wallpaper will bulge.

  • Check before wallpapering:

Always check the batch number, pattern and colour of wallpaper. Make sure that the yardage of wallpaper you have purchased is sufficient to wallpaper the designated room. Only then unwrap the vinyl wallpaper from the film. Compare the colours of multiple rolls with each other. Do not cut all the rolls at once, but gradually. Only whole rolls can be claimed.
